Bring The Mourning On - autumn almanac

In the last years Scandinavia has proofed to be a great source for autumn and winter tunes. This october Bring The Mourning On from Sweden will release their debut and bring some warmth and understanding for a cold season.
Following artists like Kristofer Astroem, St. Thomas, Christian Kjellvander or Poor Rich Ones, the band delivers the comforting soundtrack for days that are too cold and rainy. Since 2006 the music evolved through emotional late night talks, red wine and cigarette smoke.
Let’s describe the sound as massive melancholy, room filling and comfortable. This one goes out to the great wide open.

Patience and respect - Drive-By Truckers

Here’s to a band, who lasts a little longer. Together with guitarists Mike Cooley, Patterson Hood founded the Drive-By Truckers in 1996 and still loves what they are doing. Patterson is the son of session musician David Hood, who played on classic recordings of acts like The Staple Singers, Aretha Franklin, Paul Simon or Cat Stevens. It seems to be easy to guess where the musical interest comes from. Here is an interview with Mr. Hood junior.
Buzz: Your band exists since nearly 15 years now and just released a new record. To say it in the words of Paul Simon: still crazy after all these years?
Patterson Hood: You know, my Dad actually played the bass guitar on “Still Crazy After All These Years”. Next month is mine and Mike Cooley’s 25th Anniversary of playing together. It’s kind of ridiculous but I’m glad we’re still able to tolerate each other all these years later.
Buzz: It’s record No. 11 in 15 years with Drive-By Truckers, which seems a little anachronistic in a time, where many bands implode even before the sophomore LP. What do you think, makes your band last so long?
PH: Patience and respect. At the end of the day, Cooley and I love what the other brings into the band and we all love what the others bring to the table. I have a band that can play what I hear in my head better than my head can.
Buzz: Are you listening to contemporary Indie artists or bands?
PH: I listen to a little bit of everything. Right now I’m listening to “Scary Monsters” by David Bowie. I just bought the new Sparklehorse/David Lynch/Danger Mouse- project and really love Broken Bells and the new Black Keys. The new Hold Steady is pretty damned great, too.
Buzz: Since you are long time participants in independent music, how did the Indie music scene change over the last years in your opinion?
PH: The collapse of the music industry has opened doors for bands like us that put so much emphasis on live shows and hard work.
Buzz: There’s a new song entitled “This fucking job”. Can you make a living from the income of Drive-By Truckers?
PH: Yes, thankfully. I always feel like that “day job” is nipping at my heels and I’m usually broke, but I am making ends meet doing what I love (so far) so I’m very grateful.
Buzz: You are going to tour Europe from early November until early December. How do you think about tour life in general?
PH: It’s really hard work and really rough being away from my family so much. I have 2 small children at home and I miss my family terribly.
Buzz: The tour will take you to UK, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, France and Scandinavia. This pretty much sums up western Europe. Is there a special reason, that you don’t play any eastern European cities?
PH: I would love to and hope to very much in the near future. I’m sure the reasons so far have been economic, as I don’t think we break even on our European tours yet so we have to do what we have to do to afford to do it. We have a pretty big show so it’s hard to afford. I really want to play the eastern countries and I’m sure it will happen, hopefully sooner than later.
Buzz: How does touring in Europe distinguish from playing in the US?
PH: It’˙s way harder, but I love it. The economics are tough and we all have families to support, plus it’s so far from them, but we make it happen and hopefully it will improve. We are much bigger band in Europe than last time we came so it’s getting better.
Buzz: Please tell us, which records will be listened to in your tour bus.
PH: Our bus has non-stop music playing. Everyone in the band is a record collector and we tour with a turntable (at least in the states) and spin records all day in the back lounge. I’m quite the DJ.
